On Borrowing

"For the Lord thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee".   Deut 15 : 6

There has been a lot misinterpretations of this verse, however the BUT in the sentences is a paradigm that changes everything and puts a whole new sense to it. It is saying that the condition for 'lending to many nations' is NOT BORROWING; and in the same light, the condition for 'reigning over nation' is THEY SHALL NOT REIGN OVER YOU.

Now, reading it again in a paraphrased manner, this should sound thus : '...thou shalt lend unto many nations, on the condition that thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, on the condition that they shall not reign over thee.'

So, God is saying that for you to be able to be a lender of nations (someone who is to be reckoned with, a big giver, debt-free, on top, taking the lead), you need to do away with the beggarly life of borrowing.

That makes sense, because proverbs 22: 7 said a borrower is servant to the lender, and Psalms 37 : 21 said  that the wicked borroweth...but the righteous giveth. That means that, ideally, borrowing is not meant for the righteous.

Borrowing places a limit on you. It puts you in a class of servants, doing the bidding and dictates of the ones you borrowed from, running around and not having your peace of mind. But if you must if you must rise to the class of givers...real big time givers, you should not borrow/ stop borrowing.

God bless you!
