On Prayer

Image
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; f or kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty . For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 The thought of prayer could feel cumbersome or tiring when you do not really understand the magnitude of it importance. The opening scripture in 1 timothy 2 said, FIRST of all, prayers should be made for ALL men; that includes the people in leadership and those at the hem of affairs. Why? So that we can live a peaceful and quiet life. So, the responsibility of having peace in our society is largely dependent on how much you interceded.   Prayer is the way to connect to God with our spirits and the effective way to stand in the gap for people who you could not have ot...

On Love

Image
1 John 4 : 7  "Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God , and knoweth God." 1 John 3:18  "My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth."    The subject of love has been widely taught, discussed, talked about, spoken of and even expressed both in the positive and negative distorted extremes. However quite a few number have actually paused a bit to understand what LOVE really is, it's content, and how it is really practiced.  The opening scripture of 1 John 3:18 points out that love (just like compassion and mercy,) is in the action, not in words or intents; and 1 Corinthians 13 explains in details the contents of love : it  never gives up, cares more for others than for self.  Love is not jealous, it does not brag, d oesn’t force itself on others, i sn’t always “me first,”  and it cannot be made angry easily. Love does not r...

On Discernment of Spirits

Image
1 Jn 4: 1 "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world".   Whenever the subject of testing spirits for false prophecy arises, the mind automatically goes to spiritual leaders. However, it goes beyond the religious confines to include all aspects of our entire life : friends, business partners/associates, colleagues, life partners, social circles, theories, philosophies, internet advises etc...the list goes on. Why? because it said that many false prophets have gone into the WORLD (key word : 'world', not 'into only churches'). It means that they are everywhere and in every area in the world; and when 1 John 1:4 said 'false prophets' it was referring to the spirit of false prophecy itself because it started by saying : test all spirits . So, don't be eager to jump on everything that anyone says, but critically examine and listen sensitively...

On Meekness (Humility)

Image
Ps 37 : 11  " But the meek shall inherit the earth ; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace ".  Isaiah 1:19 "If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land ":  Mat 11: 29 ...for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls".  Meekness is lowliness of heart; which is also called humility. Psalms 37:11 said the meek shall inherit the earth and have abundance of peace, Jesus also reinforces the peace aspect when he said that you will find rest if you took on his meek and lowly character. This means that meekness give you access anything to ever wanted in the earth: the meek shall inherit the earth.  Also, Isaiah 1: 19 explains the attribute you need to have to eat the good of the land : being willing and obedient. It said if ye be willing and obedient ye shall eat the good of the land; which is much similar to inheriting the earth. So in essence, meekness means being wil...

On Contention

Image
James 3:16  "For where envying and strife  is , there  is  confusion and every evil work."    At one point or the other in life, there is this need for you to make your voice heard and your opinion taken into consideration. That is quite fine; however, taking it to extreme, especially when it involves insisting on yours against another's opinion or voice, is where contention comes in.  This insistence on a view point when the other person won't back down either, brings about strife, and James 3:16 says that wherever this exists, there is confusion and every evil work. Now, this is so true of the world we live in, because you notice that whenever you have an argument with someone over a matter, you feel disoriented, annoyed or any other negative emotion you can relate with, especially when the motive is to win without considering whether the self-esteem of the other person is being trampled on. That is usually not a good sight as...

On Strength (and weakness)

Image
2 Cor 12 : 9  "And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness." Prov 8 : 14  "Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength. "  It is amazing that the majority of places where strength is mentioned in the scriptures, it is ascribed to God; and the few places where some people tried to appropriate strength to themselves, they failed flat on their faces.  A typical example was the case of king Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 4:20 when he boasted of how he built Babylon by the might of his power, and before he was done talking, God showed him how low and weak he was; he became an animal and ate grass for seven years, till he came to realize that he was not really the actual owner of that strength he had. This clearly shows fallibility of humans in the area of strength; 1 Sam 2:9 said that by strength shall no man prevail and...all flesh is as grass that withers...

On Compassion

Image
1 peter 3:8  Finally, be ye  all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be  pitiful , be  courteous:   Compassion is a compound word that consists of mercy and grace. It is a deeper dimension of love that goes from showing kindness to people for your sake to showing kindness to people for their sake. It is one thing to show kindness to someone because it is convenient or you have the capacity to do so, it is another thing to go out out your way to to reach out to someone FOR THEM; now that's compassion. It is being pitifully kind, and 'the-other-person' oriented. It takes compassion to be able to genuinely forgive or administer healing to someone. This is because it shifts away from doing it for your conscience sake to doing it to and for the other person with the understanding that they can not help themselves. When you forgive a person who wrongs you from the understanding that they are 'blind' and need help ...
